Master bedroom. We brought this green armchair from New York - I never thought that I would buy a green chair but I saw this and decided to take a risk. This gorgeous antique rug is a Persian Heriz Serapi, unique all over floral design from late 19th century. It fits perfectly with the green sofa and the atmosphere of our bedroom.

Kitchen. We completely re did the kitchen, took out the original center island and created a peninsula, to make it feel more spacious and open. The arch leading to the bedroom was something quite spontaneous during construction. The blue doors to the bedrooms are inspired by our trip to Santorini the year before.

A corner of our living room, next to the bookshelves and where my standing desk is. You can see Tiger sleeping in the swing chair, this is one of her favorite spots. I love the combination of warm industrial furniture (standing desk, stool, and book shelves) and a timeless antique rug (this blue background rug here is from the Caucasus, Dagestan region to be exact, well over 100 years old). One thing we really love here is the fact that we are surrounded by greens, you can see the trees outside from our windows almost everywhere.

master bathroom. We picked tiles that make the space look clean and modern. I designed and had our contractor make the vanity, because nothing we liked could arrive in time. It turned out to be a great decision, we got exactly what we wanted with far cheaper.

This is me standing in our living room. I love how our place reflects who we are - I guess especially me since I picked 95% of the decor. My husband picked the appliances: washer/dryer, dish washer, coffee maker, cooktop.

Study/guest bedroom. Love how this antique Moroccan rug brings so much color and style to this space, that also matches the curtain.

We are a family of three (me, my husband, and our toyger cat named Tiger) that relocated from New York City to San Francisco 1 year ago. We purchased a home (a condo in a unique Mediterranean style complex right in the middle of the city, Russian Hill neighborhood) before we even officially moved because we saw the potential of turning this place into the home we would love. After we moved here, we moved into a rental place one block away and started a 5 month renovation project. Although we hired contractors, we did not engage an interior designer and picked everything ourselves, because I had a pretty good idea in terms of the space we would like to create. Neither of us is in the design or creative industries, my husband is a lawyer, I was an investment banker/private equity professional turned agriculture tech entrepreneur, but I have always loved design and dreamed of becoming an architect.

We used to live in a one-bedroom apartment on the Upper West Side in Manhattan, it was 760 sqft. Now we have 2000 sqft indoor and a 2000 sqft outdoor garden, which is amazing. Suddenly we need to add more furniture and home decor to make the place feel homey and not empty. In the process I also fell completely in love with antique oriental rugs (now I started a side business called Saffron Bloom Interiors dealing gorgeous antique rugs, @saffronbloom on instagram), which have made a huge difference in terms of making a space feel warm and stylish, and pulling everything together. We mostly spend time in the living room, kitchen and master bedroom. We finally have a proper kitchen now which makes cooking a lot more fun, and so much easier to entertain family and friends. Now we prefer to invite small group of friends over for dinner party instead of going out like when we were in New York. It's so cozy when everyone circles around the fireplace in the living room at the end of the night, having great conversations, wine and enjoying each other's company. We love how warm and colorful our place is, it's a collection of many things we love and collected when living and traveling in many parts of the world. We did not intentionally pick one theme or style, but just continued to add things that we love and somehow it worked for us. Starting with antique rugs (which by default are re used items), I became a huge fan of vintage and storied items, and since have picked up a number of vintage decor, especially paintings, which added a lot of character to our place. I love the fact that we mixed old (some are over 150 years old) and new items to create something of our own.
