Blue Coat Lane was designed and built for a family originally from England and Ireland. Their desire was to build a unique modern home in Westport to raise their children. The project team was faced with some unique challenges. Prevalent wetlands on site required that the home be built on the existing homes much smaller footprint with limited expansion allowed. The owners also wanted to build a full finished basement, and given the high water table construction required a specially engineered foundation with a commercial-grade waterproofing system.
The home features some unique building materials such as Shou Sugi Ban (charred) cypress siding, high-performance aluminum European windows and doors and green features such as a live vegetated roof and permeable driveway. Pre-cast concrete pavers were used on the walkways and pool terrace where cantilevered steel structure creates a series of covered outdoor spaces. The home was built with energy efficiency in mind, latest systems and best practices, with a design that embraces indoor/outdoor living.
