What started as a 1900’s Craftsman-style Bungalow, was reimagined into an art-driven, urban and modern design through the creative use of architectural elements, along with contemporary furnishings customized with Scion fabrics. These clients are busy parents of five kids, who wanted their home to feel “uncluttered and clean” for when life gets a little messy. They didn’t want to sacrifice style, luxury, their love for color, or any part of their full family life. By blending in color, form, and function throughout the spaces and taking into consideration how each element works together holistically, we created a space that is inviting, exciting, and a reflection of our client’s own style and culture—a space where they can live, work, and play.

Throughout the home, we pushed the boundaries of our imagination and use of materials with well-appointed appliances and features that lend to the home’s innovative influence and performance. The kitchen features an accessible mosaic tile along the ceiling that’s complimented by gold-speckled backsplash extending down the wall, splashing the interiors with a lively pattern and vibrant colors. Beautifully, simplistic woven light fixtures float above custom concrete countertops and kitchen cabinets, adding the perfect dose of artistry and texture to the room. The dining room features a wavy, decorative wall tile which adds an elegant, dimensional impact on the space, creating a stunning visual effect. Built-in panels in the family room contribute to undeniable details found throughout the design, and diamond shaped veneer using Sycamore wood, custom designed by Tom Jackson Floors, accentuates the beauty of the grain. An adjustable artistic panel is a sleek, clean way to conceal the TV in the living area. This creative solution allowed us to design a room that was incredibly functional, without sacrificing an ounce of beauty.

Each space possesses its own expression of texture and materials that give layered depth to the senses: both sight and touch. Family is an important thread in everything our client does, so we regarded the use of lines throughout the space as a representation of the close bond the family shares. Steady angles, classic lines, and geometric shapes come together and work cohesively throughout the design. Each child’s room is full of character from the patterns on the walls to the pillows on their beds. With the use of geometric, patterned wallcoverings, we personalized each room with depth and color. Their rooms were also designed with either bunk beds or lofts to maximize the space for more room to lounge or play.

The master bedroom was inspired by our client’s favorite vacation spot: Chicago. Taking cues from Chicago’s signature urban aesthetic and enviable interiors, we started with eye-catching furniture that’s rooted in a blend of architectural influences. A modern, luxury, handcrafted wood tub by NK Woodworking Design is the centerpiece of their completely open concept master bedroom and serves as a functional form of fine art.
