Craftsman Bungalow Gets a Scandinavian Kitchen & Bath

A Queen Anne couple came to us looking to modernize their traditional, craftsman home on the hill. The main floor is comprised of a living room, 2 bedrooms, the main bathroom and kitchen. The highest traffic areas of the home needed some updating, so the clients worked with our in-house designer Cat Schmidt to channel Scandinavian simplicity. Though simple at first glace, close attention was paid to the details that would make those spaces functional and unique.

The kitchen features austere Canyon Creek Burnished Indigo cabinets that contrast the white walls and marble-mimicking quartz countertops. Brass fixtures, which have been making a comeback in recent years, were added to the cabinets pulls and shelving. Take note of the custom white oak shelving, an idea we developed with the help of Electri-City and Abodian. A line has been routed for LED lighting that will illuminate the counter below. It’s one of the more unique lighting solutions we’ve developed, and an excellent alternative to under-cabinet lighting for open shelving. Another unique piece is the small range hood. Thought the depth was only 11″ (most are at least 21″) it packed a huge 940 CFM.

The adjacent remodel turned a dull space into an intentional, spa-like master bath with unique features of it’s own. The in-shower, heated, towel rack was a first for us, but a necessity as there was nowhere else to put it within the small footprint of the room. It works because the bathtub itself is a foot longer than standard tubs. The hinged, half shower door is also a minimalist solution. It makes the bathroom appear larger and be more accessible for entry/exit or cleaning. The bathroom vanity drawers have interior outlets, so you can keep your hairdryer plugged in and cords hidden. The simple white subway tile, paired with hexagon marble flooring, allow plenty of light to reflect from every corner of the room.
