Estuary House

The location of this house in Alameda on the Oakland Estuary is prime for sailing and outdoor-indoor entertaining. We expanded the house to give space for a growing family and to improve its look and functions.

We did a simple, cost-effective rear two-story addition for a master suite above and large family room below. A glass-railed deck off the master bedroom takes advantage of the views to the water. Large doors at the family room connect a flow of living spaces at the interior to a more developed back yard leading down to the water. The new rear-facing gabled roof improves the presence of the house as seen from the yard and the water.

Interior design is eclectic, using a mix of colors and materials for warmth, and many built-ins for ease of use. Sightlines through the house connect and light the spaces.
