Glass Pavilion | an addition to a mid-century modern house
The owner has furnished the addition with imported modern furniture.
The west side provides large window and a glass door with access to the existing outdoor terrace.
The entry foyer is expanded, with the addition roof slipping above the existing roof and a slot window separating the pavilion from the existing stone chimney.
The expanded entry foyer internalizes the existing stone chimney and connects the pavilion to the existing living room.
The addition cantilevers over the slope of the surrounding ravine.
The glass pavilion floor and roof structure cantilever over the ravine, with large south facing windows.
The addition blends into the existing house and the woods.

A small addition to a mid-century modern house cantilevers over a ravine into the surrounding woods. The addition features large glass windows on three sides and an extension of the entry foyer. The addition is separated from the existing house by a slot window and a "floating" flat roof to maintain the integrity of the original design and become a Glass Pavilion in the woods.
