Gregory Ain, Architect :: Park Planned Homes, 1948. High in the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains, bordering the Pasadena Waldorf campus, this extraordinary neighborhood of twenty-eight Modern homes incorporates the collective spirit and aesthetic sensibilities that define the architect's pioneering work. Interior courtyards shelter homes from the street, providing a sense of privacy within the larger community. Glass walls face private gardens, clerestory windows and skylights provide natural light and cross-ventilation, and the hearth is the heart of the home. Tastefully remodeled, sensitive to the original design, a more open floor plan connects the new kitchen directly to living and dining areas, with custom cabinets, quartz countertops, high-end stainless appliances, and a built-in breakfast bar crafted from a sycamore on site. New bathroom, with deep soaking tub, textured porcelain tile, and attractive built-in vanity; new HVAC, European hardware, and tankless water heater.
