A pied-à-terre for art collectors

The client, a French couple who are keen art collectors, wanted a holiday retreat in the middle of a vibrant urban neighbourhood of Barcelona’s city centre. The existing property like many of the old apartments located in this area, the Raval, was sub divided into numerous small and dank rooms. The architectural solution was to remove as many of the partitions as possible and lay a continuous concrete floor to compliment the new neutral white walls which allowed the couple space and time to decide on what they wanted to display.

A guest bedroom was integrated within this open plan layout defined by heavy fabric curtains suspended from a curved ceiling track to provide privacy when required and all but disappear when not in use. The kitchen is the main feature within the living space reflecting the clients’ other passion, food. Clean lines, simple shapes and minimalist volumes throughout the design allow the surroundings to become the main protagonist of this apartment.
