House Tjurpannan is located at coastal Nature Reserve – Tjurpannan, in west Sweden.
This area is characterised by its austere character. Shaped by wind and weather and

constantly exposed to open sea.

You first encounter the house through an old stone wall, where a natural path through the

cultural landscape leads way up towards the house.

Positioned where the terrain flattens out, the house becomes a portal towards the Nature

Reserve.

The spatial organisation is derived from a grid of wooden structure, directly anchored in

the rock.

While primarily for weekend use, the house offers a basic living function. Conceived as a

platform and base for the family´s different outdoor activities.

Structural and material expression is rustic and the construction approach pragmatic,

with several references to older local building traditions.

The building keeps a low profile with dark natural colours throghout. All exterior wood is

treated with tar, interior is stained dark brown.

A canopy helps to create a spatial horizontality and enhance the long perspectives that

“anchor” the house in it´s context.
