Kentish Town Oasis
From Sam Stork
Situated in a busy street in North London this tiny house and garden were squeezed into the driveway of a 1930's semi detached house. It took Sam Stork 5 years to obtain the necessary planning permission to build the house with the requirement that the front façade was designed to look like an extension to the original building specified by Camden planning department.
Designed by Sam Stork for herself and her family and built during the Covid lockdown this two- storey house retains a spacious feel and is a joy to inhabit. The windows and roof lights manage to frame views of plants and trees creating the impression you are not in the heart of a busy world city but rather a calmer country residence. The well sealed and insulated external envelope protects from the street noise and keeps running costs low. Stone floors with underfloor heating and wooden surfaces give a natural and comfortable feel. A love of plants is obvious inside and outside this house which are combined with artworks and sculptural pots to provide interest in every nook and cranny.
Strategically placed rooflights provide unexpected views and changing light and shadow through the day.
