The Linden Hill House is a remodeled family home nestled on a wooded lot on the southeast side of Bloomington, Indiana.

The kitchen served as the central focus of the renovation project, undergoing a significant transformation that had the most substantial impact on the home. Initially, the kitchen was a compact, galley-style space with an adjoining large dining room, separated by a load-bearing wall. Moreover, a troublesome corner pantry occupied an irregularly shaped area within the original kitchen.

To address these issues, our design team devised a solution involving the removal of the dividing wall, a reconfiguration of the dining room and kitchen areas, and the elimination of the enclosed pantry. The result is a generously proportioned and well-lit room that harmoniously combines aesthetics with functionality, cultivating an atmosphere that is both inviting and efficient for culinary endeavors.

The expansive horizontal kitchen counter, accentuated by a captivating backsplash tile wall, harmonizes with the distinctive, naturally toned granite and charcoal-stained white oak cabinetry. This amalgamation achieves a refined modernity while paying homage to the home's rich history spanning over three decades. Simultaneously, the dark cabinetry and countertops in the kitchen contribute to a contemporary ambiance. The reimagined layout enables unobstructed sightlines and broad angles, allowing one to behold the open kitchen and dining area, with a glimpse into the living room from the entry hall.

Another significant focus of the updated design was the primary bathroom. Here, we enlarged the original shower room and refined all the finishes. The entire bathroom, including the newly incorporated corner steam shower, emanates an accessible and organic ambiance, courtesy of the Tadelakt Plaster applied to the walls and ceiling.

From the meticulous application of Tadelakt plaster to the seamless integration of the original custom-milled flooring, this project encompassed numerous bespoke and distinctive elements, presenting a unique challenge for both our design and construction teams.
