In Singapore’s ever-evolving dining scene, where design is just as important as the flavors on the plate, Hot Design Folks has projected a new Bakery & Pizzeria — Baker & Cook and Plank Sourdough Pizza at Dairy Farm, where artisanal heritage bridges with contemporary aesthetics. The 88 sqm venue is a sensory experience where textures, materials, and thoughtful design pay homage to the art of baking.

From the moment guests step inside, they are immersed in a world where craftsmanship takes center stage. Inspired by the meticulous process of breadmaking, the interior plays with elements that evoke warmth and tradition. Hanging from the ceiling, an installation references the classic bread cooling racks, creating a striking contrast with the monolithic stone counter below — its raw, textured surface reminiscent of freshly kneaded dough. Adding to the narrative, custom-designed wall sconces echo the familiar forms of baking trays.

“Our goal was to go beyond aesthetics and design an atmosphere where the process of baking becomes part of the customer’s journey,” says Evgeniya Lazareva, founder of Hot Design Folks. “Every element is intentional, crafted to engage both visually and emotionally.”

Warm minimalism

A carefully curated material palette enhances the space’s tactile appeal. The robust limestone counter, with its interplay of honed and rough finishes, anchors the interior, while whitewashed brick walls and warm timber accents create a cozy yet modern backdrop. The Plank Sourdough Pizza section introduces rustic pine planks — a subtle but deliberate nod to the brand’s signature aesthetic. A grand pizza oven, positioned for visibility from the street, draws in guests with the hypnotic glow of crackling flames.

Designing for connection

At the heart of the space lies a communal table extending from the bread counter, fostering a sense of togetherness. Banquette seating, upholstered in fabric reminiscent of flour sacks, further enhances the connection between design and craft. A refined selection of furniture from Karimoku New Standard, GUBI, Maruni, Pedrali, New Volumes, and HAY elevates the ambiance, striking a balance between sophistication and warmth.

Designed to accommodate 48 guests — 35 indoors and 13 on the terrace — the space is punctuated by intentional details that shape the atmosphere. A suspended timber veneer acoustic baffle softens sound, while custom pine wood millwork and Dekton quartz surfaces introduce both durability and style. Artisanal wall finishes, including limewash paint and whitewashed brick, tie the space together.

With this project, Hot Design Folks continues to push the boundaries of hospitality design, proving that good design, like good bread, is all about balance, craft, and soul.
