This classically modern residence is located in The Village of North Chevy Chase, Maryland. The client’s goal was to have a forever home that could adapt to their needs as they age, all while staying within a relatively tight budget. The site slopes from north to south, which allowed for the creation of two "front" doors on this corner lot. One door faces the main street, situated close to grade and easily adaptable for a ramp or low threshold entry. This facade also complements the lower scale context of the neighborhood with its modest two-story design.

One of the primary objectives was to include a primary suite on the main living level. Additionally, the owners' extensive book collection was considered, resulting in a dedicated library space and integrated built-in cabinets throughout the residence. A striking double height space above the living room serves as a prominent feature of the house.

The design incorporates several age-in-place features, such as generous circulation areas, wide doors, zero threshold showers, and appropriate framing to accommodate a future residential elevator. The walls were also equipped with blocking for easy installation of grab bars in the future.
