From Louise Middleton Design

A dated Waterfront 70’s Beach bungalow on the Strait of Georgia with a cinematic view was transformed into a dream beach house .Neutrals and soft textures provide the base for an extraordinarily entertaining home with the view as the focal point from both the open main floor and the added second floor which is the primary suite . The floating stair connecting both floors is designed to separate the space without obstructing the oceanview. The result is a peaceful ,softly lit and immediately relaxing space at any time of the day or night. One that is truly difficult to leave at the end of a visit.
Patrick Maguire and Sherry Kachur have owned this vacation property for over 20 years. In that time , the busy Lawyer & Judge have spent long weekends and summers here building memories with family and friends.

When the time came, they enlisted long time friend and designer Louise Middleton (DESIGN) to help transform the property. Louise had spend time in the home and was very familiar with it.

With the help of a local builder, Landscape architect and several local island artisans, the space took the shape that had long been the dream.

The goal was to join the exterior with its color and light to the interior spaces seamlessly. A floor to ceiling stacking glass wall was installed to connect the open living space to the patio while the kitchen opens to outdoor dining with a folding glass pass through window.

The palette was soft and organic in its feel, including white oak the color of driftwood, countertop materials reminiscent of sand after the water has retreated and black metal details. No hardware was used on the millwork, instead opting for custom solid wood constructed handles on appliances and integrated pulls on the cabinets.

The living area seating was selected for entertaining and comfort with a two sided modular sectional from Resource Furniture while the central dining room table was custom made with locally sourced Elm.

Up the stairs to the primary suite, additional floor to ceiling windows open to the ocean view that can be seen from the custom made king bed .

The exterior of the house was a mixture of yellow cedar , metal , stucco and a limestone brick..

Much of the original plantings were replanted along with many additional trees and plants local to the region.

Sprinkled among them are Patrick's mothers sculptures that have lived there since the house was originally purchased.
