From Rusafova Markulis Architects

We were hired to design a summer cabin in the mountains of North Carolina inspired by Japanese and Scandinavian design aesthetics. The clients wanted a simple vacation home that is a comfortable base for their summer adventures. They embraced our vision for three simple pavilions framing the logging road cutting through the site. The building creates a cozy inner court yard, yet it connects to the 360 degree mountain views surrounding the cabin.

We opted for a paired down palette of dark stained wood, rough-sawn pine, polished concrete and lots of natural light.
