Located adjacent to the Lutsen Mountains Ski and Summer Resort, the project is envisioned as a year-round retreat, taking advantage of the many outdoor activities along Minnesota's North Shore and the nearby Superior National Forest. Four vacation rental cabins, each with its own private sauna and outdoor fire pit, are outfitted with a modest palette of materials: corrugated metal siding, cedar siding, and plywood interiors.

The cabins are elevated on concrete piers to accommodate a sloping site and 120 inches of annual lake-effect snow. Subtle shifts in plan and section provide privacy between neighboring cabins, distinct public and private spaces within, and framed views of the coniferous forest, with glimpses of Lake Superior beyond.

The cabins and saunas were completed in 2023 and are welcoming visitors for the winter ski season. The final landscape touches will be completed in the spring of 2024 to greet visitors for the summer vacation travel season.
