Exterior and House Building Type The back building was originally built for the cooperative society of the Danish State Railways in the 1930s, and then for the government cooperative society. In the 1970s, the domestic appliances company, Skousen purchased the property and used the back building as a storage facility. From the early 00s the back building was empty, and the backyard was known as a hangout for Fredericia’s undesirables.

Today the back building looks razor sharp with a white rendered façade and black industrial windows, harking back to the building’s past as a storage facility. The wooden bridge leading to the front door is an extra effect that Jesper Therkildsen loves to add to his buildings: an extra touch that demonstrates that this is a special home.

The actual backyard was also renovated with new paving and plants. All tarmac was scraped off, and for two months two pavers laid chip stones in the ground, stone by stone. Photo 2 of 15 in The Architect's backyard home by Anita Barner Ibsen
