The Lucas - Church-Turned-Luxury Condo

The Lucas has revived the historic late 19th century gothic style Holy Trinity German Church in Boston's thriving Ink Block District, and architects Finegold Alexander Architects have transformed it into 33 contemporary condos with floorpans ranging from 1-4 bedrooms. This remarkable project has maintained the integrity, character, and original 1874 architecture by building an 8 story residential building into walls of the church.
The building has eight residential floors, with the bottom three housed in the church proper. Units on those floors sold rapidly, but larger 4-bedroom condos, which range from 2,500 to 3,500 square feet, are encased within a newly built steel-and-glass tower that offers decks and city views.
Each of the 1 to 3-bedroom units are completely individualized, based on unique architectural details. The existing Victorian Gothic features of the stone walls, tower, and arched windows are seamlessly blended with contemporary glass and steel. The design team sought to marry the old and new by retaining the architecturally significant landmark’s tracery windows, front doors, and other artifacts.
The 1,000-3,000-square foot condo units have high ceilings, terraces, and luxury amenities including a concierge, a gym, a library/lounge, garage parking and direct elevator access to most units. The preservation of the original façade allowed for the main entry and two of the units to have private street entrances framed by Gothic arches and rose windows. The former bell tower is also incorporated into some of the condominiums.
The property has all the amenities a well-heeled city dweller might pray for: a concierge, a common courtyard with a fire pit, and a state-of-the-art gym. There’s also a pet spa with a large walk-in shower featuring handglazed subway tiles—a godsend for dog-loving urbanites.
With the Back Bay, Chinatown, and the South End right at your doorstep, the location’s truly dreamy —a holy trinity indeed.
