The Martha’s Vineyard Zen Den: Off-Grid Luxury Meets Coastal Living

From Brian English
This Martha’s Vineyard project showcases the elegance and efficiency of modular design in one of New England’s most iconic locations. Our Zen Den ADU was reimagined as an off-grid pool house, seamlessly blending modern convenience with the island’s rustic charm.
A Bespoke Design for Island Living
The clients selected Origin Studio for our modular expertise, finding it more economical and efficient to purchase and ship the unit off-island rather than build locally. This 200 sq ft structure, designed as part of a larger renovation that included a new in-ground pool, perfectly complements their coastal retreat.
Innovative Features
• Off-Grid Readiness: Equipped with a Cinderella incinerating toilet, the Zen Den eliminates the need for septic connections, making it fully off-grid and eco-friendly.
• Seamless Indoor-Outdoor Flow: A stunning Pella Architectural Series three-panel, 10-foot sliding glass door floods the interior with natural light and offers expansive views of the surrounding landscape.
• Premium Design Elements: The ADU features high-end finishes, durable materials, and a layout optimized for functionality and relaxation.
A Poolside Sanctuary
This Zen Den now serves as a luxurious pool house, offering a serene space for relaxation and entertaining after a swim. Its modular design allowed for swift construction and easy transport, delivering a high-quality structure without the logistical challenges of island-based building.
A Model of Sustainable, Modular Living
By adapting the Zen Den for this unique project, we’ve highlighted the flexibility of modular construction to meet diverse needs while staying true to our ethos of thoughtful design, sustainability, and craftsmanship.
This project is proof that even in remote locations, modular living can redefine modern lifestyles with style and efficiency.
