The Mt. Vernon Manor

Located in the Mount Vernon Square historic district of Washington, DC, an 1890's Victorian rowhouse of nearly 4,000 sq ft was completely gutted and remodeled, creating a 2 family flat out of a single family residence, all while preserving the unique characteristics of the antique home. This rowhouse used to have a fully-operational dental office in the cellar (note the 3 small dental exam rooms in the original cellar layout). The previous family who owned the home lived in it for over 60 years, raising 3 generations of their family inside, and taking pride to preserve all the unique architectural features of the home (which were also protected, preserved, restored, and highlighted throughout this recent renovation). Over the course of 18 months, along with a $600,000 budget, the home was converted from a single family dwelling with 4 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms and 1 kitchen, to a multi-family dwelling (2 family flat) with 11 bedrooms, 6 full bathrooms / 2 half bathrooms, and two large kitchens - all without adjusting the footprint of the home! Maintaining its original character and historical architectural features, while adding on modern touches and comforts to enhance one’s living experience in the home, this old Victorian beauty is now able to accommodate a family of 22+ comfortably! The design and construction was built by a team consisting of an Urban Planner and an Engineer and was completed in June of 2023.
