Architect Will Bruder’s philosophy on architectural excellence isn’t easy to sum up in one sentence, but then again, neither is his work. Bruder’s philosophy states, “When we experience architectural design excellence all our senses are alerted and nourished. Our curiosity is piqued, our time and place is reflected and respected in unexpected ways. Our minds are opened to new ideas, our confidence in the possibility of the human endeavor renewed. We feel comfortable yet challenged, understood yet urged to stretch. We want to be in such places alone and together with others. We want to be in such places at all times of day and night and through all seasons. We want time in such places to learn their secrets and confirm the validity of our initial awe. We want such places to serve as markers of our best efforts. We want such places to exist beyond our lifetime.”
This philosophy is evident throughout the Platt Residence. Designed in 1978 by Will Bruder and built in 1980 by original owner/resident, David Platt, The Platt residence is a unique desert oasis that would be virtually impossible to replicate today. Nestled on a scenic 2.2 acre parcel of land bordered by the Arizona canal, The Platt Residence boasts mountainous views from a quiet, rural setting that just happens to be minutes from the 101 and I-17 freeway as well as the shopping areas at Norterra.
Bruder expertly used a combination of glass, steel, copper and desert masonry, to design the Platt residence. The now internationally acclaimed architect and one-time Paolo Soleri apprentice, won the AIA Arizona/Phoenix Home & Garden 1989 Honor Award for his design of the Platt Residence. It doesn’t take an expert to see that the Platt house is a brilliant combination of good design and masterful engineering. It is both hand crafted and sophisticated, a genuine diamond in the rough. To own this home is to own a work of art.
This impressive home boasts spacious grounds, a sparkling pool and three bedrooms with multiple patios surrounding the home. The crown jewel of this unique home is the roof. This one of a kind, intricately designed roof provides the perfect cover for the floor to ceiling glass walls that surround the home. When standing inside the home, it is often hard to tell where the inside of the home stops and the where the outdoors begins. Amazing views abound from nearly every angle in this architectural masterpiece, yet there is a sense of privacy in ever area of the home.
In the spirit of good stewardship, the current owners have worked many hours to restore and maintain this architectural gem. They have added upgrades such as a Tesla solar system, new rain gutters, new propane line, new propane tank and new pool heater in addition to repairing and maintaining the AC unit and ductwork. The oversized, pull through, two car garage offers ample storage space and an additional sink and laundry hookup. Offered at $770,000, this home is ready to find a new owner that will take pride in owning such a fine piece of desert architecture.
