From Tru Form Tiny
Constructed for a California-based family desiring a versatile backyard structure, this project reflects their preference for a white-on-white theme, blending modern and farmhouse designs. Initially conceived with a modern exterior and interior, the client opted for a traditional farmhouse interior. Tru Form Tiny, known for its customization capabilities, tailored the unit to the client's specific requirements. Although this bespoke approach is more expensive, it ensures a uniquely personalized experience with top-tier craftsmanship. Tru Form Tiny employs premium materials free from formaldehyde, particle board, or MDF. The cabinetry is tailor-made, not pre-purchased from box stores, and windows are custom-designed for each home.
Solar solutions are a key feature in this build, especially important for this client in California, where power outages are common. A Goal Zero system, wired to the house’s lighting and refrigerator, was installed for affordability and convenience. It allows for direct charging of small devices, lights, and appliances, and is recharged by solar panels.
Dubbed the "Urban Park Studio," this model, sized at 18 feet long and 11 feet wide, had been under development for over a year. Clients collaborate with our in-house designer, Malia, to customize the unit through a 3D design process. This model includes a foldable exterior door, a two-story closet (with only the bottom story visible here), a choice between a 4.5-foot shower or bath, a small modern-style hickory vanity (country styling shown), and a compact kitchen in various styles (intirely removable for a credit). A queen-sized loft with a large, storable stair ladder and a main door awning are standard. Optional upgrades include tiles, external stairs, additional awnings, lighting and flooring options, solar packages, and exterior siding choices like Shou Sugi Ban and Metal.
A client-requested beam spans over the folding door, suitable for a swing chair; it is not structural. In contrast, a large diagonal beam is an integral part of the structure. One corner of the model features a hipped design, adding an aesthetically pleasing touch to this smaller unit.
