From Cravotta Interiors
Though the clients had only lived in larger homes, traditional in architecture and design, they
desired to experience a more urban, modern environment. The clients enlisted Cravotta Interiors to
design a home that would reflect how they had evolved as individuals and as a family.
Cravotta set out to design spaces that were simple, restrained and elegant, incorporating beautiful
high-quality materials with a wide variety of textures. From walnut floors and French oak ceilings to
plush fabrics, unique surfaces and steel details throughout, the space needed to fit within the
architecture of the W Residences yet still be unique to the clients.
The entry of the 3,152 sf sub-penthouse features an antique mirror mosaic wall as backdrop to an
important Brutalist sculpture. Attention then shifts to the expansive Mondrian-inspired steel wall
featuring an array of glass panels with delicate fabrics laminated between the panes. Though
primarily used for billiards, the table easily converts for dining. Table leaves and elegant industrial
folding chairs are stored steps away. The brass chandelier has automated pendants that lower for
billiards.
The open living room is located between the dining room and kitchen with unimpeded views of the
city. The breadth of materiality is most prominent here with luxurious mohair and wool upholstery
and a burnt oak cocktail table. The velum-glass chandelier adds a touch of glamour juxtaposed with
the otherwise earthy palette.
A beautiful textile behind a glass backsplash adds a pop of saturated color to the kitchen. The
ceiling plays off the steel and glass wall with panels in a high-gloss automotive finish, providing a
reflective backdrop for the multifaceted lights. Custom steel shelves hold barware, and handstitched
leather conceals pipes.
A previously unused storage closet was converted to the office and clad in wood to provide natural
warmth to a windowless room. The custom steel and white oak shelves include integrated LED
lighting; the desktop is wrapped in leather.
From the 33rd floor, the master bedroom feels like an aerie with a herringbone wool wall covering
flanked by smooth gloss-painted walls and ceiling that add a subtle luminescent glow to the room.
Attention to lighting is prevalent in every room, with fixtures as beautiful as art.
Cravotta Interiors carefully curated an art collection to complement the interiors and the clients’
personal taste. Pieces range from antique and vintage to work from contemporary artists.
