Tiburon waterfront accessible Condo Interior Design.
Located downtown Tiburon, California, in the San Francisco Bay, this 920 s. f. one bedroom one bathroom condominium apartment was a pleasure to design. An unbeatable location for restaurants, and most important quick access to the San Francisco Ferry, on a wheelchair without need of car.
The couple him Japanese American IT, disabled while young on a car accident and Para rugby player, needed to have accessibility. She wanted to make sure the interiors were contemporary style.
We provided full accessibility especially to the bathroom with a curb-less shower and a wheelchair accessible sink.
Project requirements.
• ADA, full compliance. Wheel chair access.
• Storage. The existing space was notoriously lacking storage.
• Energy efficiency. Entire unit is LED lighting and automated to command through Alexa or Siri.
Energy consumption very low.
• Fireplace upgrade to sealed efficient recirculating Landscape unit.
• TV 70” class required.
Ergonomically positioned.
• Sleek and attractive, in spite of ADA requirements.
• Everything was permitted and in compliance with code, however attractive too.
Living. The intangibles, the most coveted view in the Bay being the financial district and of course the water. Leather sectional over hand knotted rug.
No coffee or central table, small end tables instead.
Dining. Round table with marble top and lazy Susan, with a banquette or bench chair, unusual for a round table. Burgundy, pink, black colors. Two chairs only allowing wheelchair space.
Kitchen. We were able to do simple upgrades, painted the natural cherry into flat gray, replaced the lighting and minor cabinet details. We love it when we don’t need to waste something that works well and we are being sustainable.
Fireplace-TV wall. The outdated fireplace and clearance for a 40” TV, required full replacement to allowing a 60” Ortal fireplace, which heat recirculates in the shaft and into the space 100% sustainable, as well as a 70” class TV brought down as much as possible to eye level. Black stained drift oak was selected to disguise both TV and Fireplace with the black color. Wardrobes for him to the lower sides.
Bedroom. California King was required, while the previous layout allowed Queen only, so we placed the bed on the angled wall backing the street. The Italian bedframe selected had the smallest footprint including the headboard, while the mattress lifts with a spring mechanism for storage, frequently used in small spaces in Europe.
Bathroom. In this case probably the most important room in the house. A wall mounted backlit Cranberry resin top, with a pyramid angled custom polished stainless still sink to reflect the tapered shape of the street wall. Sliding frameless sliding glass door, 2’x1’ ceramic wall tile and 2” square floor. The cabinet under the sink allows for especial needs seat. Bench and handheld shower by the window. Deep medicine storage cabinets the full extent of the dry area wall.
The clients were so excited on the Cranberry Resin, they had to have the vanity despite the high cost. It is very lively.
