From Deckorators
At 32 by 72 feet, this large fourth-story rooftop deck in Chicago features a 30-by-30 covered wood pavilion, outdoor kitchen, spa and fire pit. Deckorators® Vault™ Dusk composite decking was used to create a 2,300-square-foot outdoor entertaining space. Because Vault contains no organic material –– Vault decking is composed of polypropylene and mineral filler –– the boards absorb virtually no moisture, making them ideal for a rooftop application. The buffet and eating area includes a grill, cook top, refrigerator and ice maker – all outdoor-rated appliances. The basic cabinet and bar are finished with 1-by-6 cedar with doors also finished with cedar, all stained. The countertops are Granite and sealed, designed to withstand Chicago’s extreme temperature changes. The space can be used in all seasons by adding ceiling heaters. The pavilion ceiling is a 1-by-6 cedar tongue and groove with cedar trim; all was stained in a Mission Brown color. The siding on the exterior walls removed and replaced was 5.5 shiplap siding installed with an overlap and looks smooth when finished. The wall siding was stained once set in place.
