Custom-designed furniture outfits the interior of a bunker-turned-vacation retreat in the Netherlands.
Here's the custom-built galley kitchen and bar. They installed new mahogany laminate to match the original furniture. Brandes designed the ceiling lights, and Area 63 fabricated and installed them.
Here's the finished sofa bed. The sofa is upholstered in Designers Guild fabric. The curtains are from Ikea. The chair is from Cost Plus. And the wall cupboard above incorporates some of the trailer's original mahogany wood.
The materials palette that I chose is light in color with a few splashes of color. This lightness holds the space open and gives it a contemporary feel.
The Dome Home is divided into separate areas where designers can gather or break off to explore ideas. In the loft, a wooden desk blends seamlessly into its wooden environs. Meanwhile, on the lower level Timothy Oulton Shabby sofas with cushions made of real sheepskin off-cuts provide a comfortable place to congregate.
Clad in red shingles, the house’s titular dome is located in the midst of a lychee garden. All of its parts have been neatly fitted together, allowing the home to meet German Passive House standards and keeping energy consumption to a minimum. The benches, walls, and frame for the outdoor seating area were built from reclaimed wood and brick.
"It was always my dream to own my own audio set-up, and in my 50s – when I was finally able to build my own home – that audio dream came true," Hasui says.
Jackson Tucker Lynch’s geodesic yurt in fforest Camp near Cardigan, Wales makes inventive use of ceiling fabric to soften the interior while also providing insulation. The drapes create privacy and help defuse lighting.
With the help of builder Peter Watts, the couple returned the house to its original early-1970s glory, utilizing the space beneath for both boat and car.
Designed by Taliesin student Dave Frazee, the Miner's Shelter in Scottsdale, Arizona, is a 45-square-foot dwelling that responds to its harsh desert environment with a special metal cover that keeps it shaded at all times.

The defining feature of this lakeside cabin in northern Idaho is a 30-by-20-foot window wall that opens the living area to the surrounding lake and forest. Concrete blocks, steel, and plywood make up the simple palette of materials.
