The door in the laundry room is the Marvin Elevate Swinging French Door, and was initially designed as a walkway out into a dog run. “We love dogs and we take into consideration most of our clients have dogs,” Becky says. “Typically, laundry rooms can be dark with no windows, no doors. It was an opportunity for us to bring some natural light into that space.

The main floor includes 20-foot vaulted ceilings and an open kitchen with custom cabinetry, Thermador appliances, and quartz countertops.

The exterior features natural slate cladding and massive floor-to-ceiling Marvin windows on the east side to take advantage of the home’s views of the rolling terrain. The tongue-and-groove clear cedar accents are used between the windows to make them a single mass and “warm up and bring some accents to the house,” says Nate.

Part surf shack, part modernist dwelling, this 2,500-square-foot house on Sweden’s southwestern shore is no fussy show home. Board storage is integrated into the design, so residents just grab and go—and nobody worries about sand or wet footprints brought in from the beach on the concrete floor.

“The roof is my favorite part of the house,” says Henrik. “It’s a real challenge to get this lightness of roof with the whole construction in line with the Case Study Houses in Sweden. We have the weather here. Many houses don’t get the proportions right and it looks like a hat on a house.”

Glass doors enclose the dining area so that it can be opened up to the terrace in warmer months, and the seascape is still a part of the interior in the cooler weather when the doors are closed.
