It’s fitting the Morrison would team up with the Japanese brand famous worldwide for its understated, minimal design. In addition to creating projects such as this wall clock, he also co-authored a book for Rizzoli offering a glimpse at the company’s products and philosophy.

The clean-lined toaster will retail for $95.

“Things with which we physically interact, the kettle for example, have to fit well with our hands,” Fukasawa says.

The rice cooker, featuring a built-in spoon rest, will retail for $195.

Tokyo-based designer Yota Kakuda has designed many pieces for the Japanese company MUJI, including these sleek stainless steel knives.

While still simple and modest, it includes a few more amenities than offered by Grcic's design, including a wood-burning stove, sliding glass doors, tatami-style flooring, and a row of clerestory windows.

The second Muji Hut, by British designer Jasper Morrison, who splits his time between his studios in Paris and Tokyo, features dark brown cork cladding, a timber porch, and gently sloped roof.

As with Morrison's Muji Hut model, it includes a wood-burning stove and small kitchenette. As suggested by the cot and spare setup, it'd make for an ideal retreat from urban living.

Burnt cedar, Japanese cypress plywood, and mortar create a trio of contrasting yet simple surface textures that breathe a relaxed vibe into the Muji Hut.

The third hut, by Muji's head design consultant and revered product designer Naoto Fukasawa, is made primarily of timber. Ideal for an outdoor retreat, it features a pitched roof and an expansive wall of glass.

It also includes a small kitchenette equipped with a sink, wooden countertop, and a dining area/nook. The door to the left leads to a bathroom.

A custom dining table made by the owner is surrounded with vintage Eames chairs and topped with a vintage Louis Poulsen PH Snowball pendant by Poul Henningsen. The metal sideboard is from Muji, and the paneling is original.

With a footprint of just 106 square feet, this Muji Hut prefab unit by German designer Konstantin Grcic makes a case for tiny, vertical living. The exterior is made from aluminum and wood.

Drawing inspiration from Japanese contemporary architecture, Jorge Alonso Albendea of Zooco Estudio gave this home in Madrid a modern and minimalist aesthetic. The kitchen features a waxed concrete floor and Muji-esque cabinets, lighting, and counters.

Inside, the spare, monastic wood interior includes a lofted space, suitable for a sleeping area. The open, tiny floor plan makes for a flexible, no-frills retreat.

The model home is furnished with Muji's line of home goods.

The Lais designed their house to be theirs forever. As such, they were able to make design moves that made sense for themselves but that wouldn't have high resale value, like the Japanese-style master bathroom in the middle of the second floor instead of off of the master bedroom. The traditional setup features bath stools from Muji for washing off.

For the bedroom, the designer selected a bed by Muji and floor lamps by Lightyears.
