    We believe in a fully detailed approach to all aspects of our homes because, as stated by Charles Eames, "The details are not the details, they make the design." From inception in 2010 until early 2015 DOODL has completed over 15 custom residential projects that include new high-end residences, modern renovations, and makeovers to original Calgary bungalows and suburban spec-homes. In 2015, DOODL began working on a collection of pre-designed homes for typical Calgary lot sizes that can allow builders, developers, or homeowners to save time and expense during the planning stages. • Elvan Arolat
    @elvanarolatfredrick
    Ms. Arolat comes from a family of architects. Born in Turkey, Ms. Arolat’s mother, father and brother, Emre Arolat are accomplished architects. Her greatest inspiration is her mother Saziment Sayilgan Arolat, who is a pioneer for women in architecture in Turkey. By entering the field of interior design, Ms. Arolat built upon her exposure and experience to the disciplines that comprise the work of an architect — engineering, physics, geometry, drawing – and took them to an even more artistic plane. Her degree in hotel and restaurant management provided her with a solid and practical grounding in business and hospitality. She went on to study interior design at the Parsons New School for Design in Paris and New York, where she further honed her skills in the human and artistic aspects of interior design, as well as the technical tools needed to transform a concept into a reality. Ms. Arolat has worked on a wide range of residential projects, from pieds–à–terre in Manhattan and private villas in Turkey to every space and room in several luxury hotels. Leveraging her background in restaurant and hotel management, Ms. Arolat has also created the interiors for several restaurants in New York and Istanbul. She has completed designs for multiple world-class hotels. These projects included full hotel interiors,: the lobby and reception areas, as well as hotel bars and restaurants, spas and saunas, outdoor spaces and pools, and every detail inside individual guest rooms. She also designed the interface between the hotel lobby and a premium retail concourse to create a seamless experience for hotel guests and shoppers alike. Two of her most recent projects are the spectacular Hilton Museum Hotel in Antioch, Turkey, the St. Regis Hotel in Maçka, Istanbul, and the Palmarina Bungalows in Yalikavak-Bodrum, Turkey. Ms. Arolat’s influences come from countless sources. Walks through New York City. Museum visits with her daughter. Dinner discussions with her brother and father. Nature around the world, sunsets, water, forests. Color. And people, whomever she encounters, from lifelong friends to strangers in the city streets.
  • Julie Laughton
    @julielaughton
    Julie Laughton is a graduate of Iowa State University. After completing her Bachelor's Degree in Interior Design in 1985, she moved to New York City, where she spent the first 7 years of her professional career working for two different Architecture firms and serving as the Senior Designer for an Interior Design firm. As Senior Designer, Julie's responsibilities included all the hand-drafting of space and furniture plans, the selection of all the furnishings and materials, and the supervision of all installations. Her corporate clients in New York City included such established corporations as Bank of America's 5th Avenue Corporate Offices, Citibank's Park Avenue Corporate Offices, David Webb Jewelry on Park Avenue, Weinburg Law Offices, and Rizzo Law Offices. While in New York, Julie also collaborated with the Top 5 developers in Manhattan to help build many of the city's 40-story luxury high-rise condos. These developers included Philip and Cheryl Milstein (Windsor Court, Liberty Court, Normandy Court, and their home in Scarsdale), Zeckendorf Development (Zeckendork Towers, Park Avenue), J.I. Sphers Real Estate (The Monark and Astor Terrace), Landau Development (990 Avenue of the Americas), Lefrak Properties (Historical FRIARS CLUB of New York City and Newport City). In 1991, Julie left NYC, moved to Laguna Beach, California, and added a Certified Custom kitchen and bath Designer to her Interior Design License, and then also became a licensed General Contractor. She devoted her career to custom home design and remodeling, with a focus on historical homes. With her passion for the Art Deco Era, she fell in love with all the early California homes built from 1910 through 1930’s, the Spanish and Mediterranean styles, the Craftsman, and of course the California Bungalows. Julie has completed over 350 custom kitchen designs and remodels along the way. She has had the pleasure of working on such historical remodels as the Georgian Hotel in Santa Monica, California, built in 1938, the historical Friar’s Club in New York City, and an original Wallace Neff home in Pasadena, built in 1927 which was featured in Jane Fonda’s movie, "Monster in Law." Julie takes a hands-on approach for all her projects. Equipped with her ability to visualize and her talent to draw, Julie can conceptualize the end result before the project even starts. She applies her expertise and experience in the custom design arena to create plans that truly work. Always painstaking and meticulous with her design details, Julie is able to help her clients achieve their goals for their homes, whether it involves creating an inviting and functional kitchen, doing a room addition, remodeling the entire home, or building a dream home from the ground up.

  • Ann Sacks
    @annsacks
    In 1980, while shopping for a wedding dress, Ann Sacks discovers a box of Mexican Talavera tiles being sold as trivets. These tiles inspire her to start her own company. Later that year, she opens her first showroom. It is located in the living room of her Portland bungalow. Ann quickly outgrew this intimate showcase, and in 1981, she opened her first store to market assorted Mexican tiles from regional artisan factories. Ann quickly learned that the enormously popular demand for tile was not limited to hand-glazed Mexican tiles. One early request was to match tiles to Kohler plumbing products. Working with local ceramists, Sacks developed a line of color tiles, and by 1983, offered handmade tiles in 100 colors that could be matched to any existing product or environment. The success of this program allowed the company to subsequently open showrooms in Seattle and Vancouver. By the mid and late eighties, Ann Sacks broadened the collection to include other architectural surfacing materials, primarily limestone, marble, and granite skins, to coordinate with tile collections. Working with suppliers in Italy, the company began to address a more modern aesthetic. During this time the partnership with Kohler, the Wisconsin-based, family-owned plumbing manufacturer, also continued. It was a perfect match for the two companies, as they both approach product design as an expression of style and lifestyle. This collaboration ultimately leads Kohler to purchase ANN SACKS in late 1989. Throughout the nineties the company continued to expand, opening new showrooms across the country. In 1996, the company is the first to market metal tiles, a modern interpretation of a classic form. Then, in early 1999, ANN SACKS introduces their plumbing collections. This is a different direction and dimension, one that fulfills the company's mission to approach design programmatically. This mission to introduce new and inspiring products to the category continues as showrooms across the country work as galleries for material innovations in glass and metal tiles, along with more traditional antique terra cotta and limestone. The company opens its own manufacturing facility in the Pacific Northwest, more new showrooms open each year, and has suppliers in over 10 countries. In 2001, the classic Tate faucet line is resurrected when an old industrial design brochure is discovered by accident. Tate goes on to win international design awards. The company continues to strengthen its ties to premier creative shops across Europe by offering an even larger selection of luxury tile, stone and plumbing products. Over the next four years, the focus on creativity continues as ANN SACKS introduces product innovations like Alloy tiles, Vidrio Glass tile, Marais wall sconces and Positano Mosaics, the construction of which utilizes a computer driven router. The company also explores new materials with Onyx lavatories and leather tiles. The one constant throughout the 23 year long journey from trivets to becoming the industry leading provider of luxury tile, stone and plumbing is the warmth, creativity and attention to service shown by each and every member of the company. The sales staff is always willing to work individually with clients to create a personal environment, whether it is with only a few hand-painted tiles or a complete bath environment with stone, tile and plumbing. Regardless of the scope of the job, ANN SACKS offers clients a programmatic approach to design and the opportunity to discover how they want their home to feel.
