Energy-efficient, the humidifier includes an ultrasonic nebulizer that automatically shuts off when the water level depletes, so no extra energy is expended.

William Ultrasonic Humidifier by Stadler Form, $168 The William will fill a space of up to 1,000 square feet with lung-friendly humid air. Inside, its automatic cleaning system keeps mold from forming.

According to the Coca-Cola company, Loewy did not redesign the contoured bottle created by the Root Glass Company in 1915, which he called "the most perfect ‘fluid wrapper’ of the day and one of the classics in packaging history." He did, however, rework different versions of the bottle, as well as retool a variety of packing and promotional material for the soft drink giant, including soda fountains, coolers and delivery trucks.

This simple plastic-and-aluminum bottle rack, designed with a small footprint and made to be easily stacked, is about as straightforward and crowd-pleasing as a bottle of good cheap merlot.

The crumbling stone walls of a 17th-century farmhouse in the remote countryside of Dumfries, Scotland, presented a unique renovation opportunity for Lily Jencks Studio and Nathanael Dorent Architecture, the teams behind this project. Rather than demolish the old walls, they inserted a crisp, modern home within them, so as to emphasize the site's history and passage of time.

The water contained in typical humidifiers is a breeding ground for bacteria. The Dyson model has an ultraviolet light treatment that silently purifies the water, twice over, so no unwanted elements end up in the air. The three-liter tank, Dyson says, is good for 18 hours of humidification.

Not known for cutting corners, Dyson spent $60.4 million to develop the humidifier, and went through 643 prototypes. Cheaper models, like those from Air-O-Swiss or the $60 Vicks V4500, will achieve similar ends as the Dyson, but they require near-daily cleaning by hand to be kept hygienic.

Here's the cafe space, which is set off to the side of the building. The kiln (currently under construction) will be behind the bank of windows in the background. We love how the building hosts a multitude of uses: a social space for the neighborhood, retail, and manufacturing. It's also two local businesses supporting each other—a customer might come in for a coffee and come out with a new place setting, and vice versa.

While the ultraviolet disinfection technology may not be a necessity, keeping a humidifier clean is vital. In other models, that requires scrubbing any part that contacts water to keep bacteria from forming and being distributed into the air. By treating the reserve water, the Dyson will move only clean fluid.

Casa Volta, located in Puerto Escondido, Mexico, sits among a lush landscape mere steps away from the Pacific Ocean. The almost 1,300-square-foot plan is made of six rectangular areas—alternating between open terraces and the three covered structures.

After the unveiling in Japan, the humidifier will arrive in the United States in Fall 2015.

Humidifier is a minimal object created by Tokyo-based designer Kazushige Miyake for Muji. The item is an ultrasonic humidifier which can humidify a personal space such the desk or bed side. You can also enjoy scents by mixing in essential oils. The humidifier can be used almost anywhere as it takes up very little real estate. Since the steam outlet is situated higher, the humidity can disperse slightly more effectively.

11+ World Desk Clock designed by Yeongkyu Yoo for Leibal, $49 at store.dwell.com This cylindrical desk clock is inscribed with names of different international cities, telling the time in each. All 24 time zones can be displayed, thanks to a distinctive rolling mechanism.

The same compound of post-war heritage houses is home to Avellana Gallery, designer Jojie Lloren’s atelier, and Artelano 11, a major design destination. In the space, furniture designer and interior designer Eric Paras not only showcases Industria, his collaborative line with Jude Tiotuico, but he has also carefully curated a stellar collection of mid-century pieces, vintage tabletop items and dishware, and standout work from other local designers.
