This stairway gets a very on-trend arch treatment.

Arched entryways bring to mind the cave homes in Oia, Greece.

Recalling the arched construction of Roman architects, Kahn's tubular museum design utilizes a row of cycloid barrel vaults, lined with reflective skylights that funnel natural light into the lengthy galleries.

The couple kept original touches, including the arch.

Being inside the boathouse, with its deep corrugations, is a unique experience. "You feel like you're in an upside-down boat or in a whale's body," Adam says. "It's quite beautiful."

This renovated arts and craft family home in Sydney’s leafy North Shore has an arched main entrance at the front of the house, and a narrow floating staircase with a threshold that mimics the arch on the façade.

The entry hall culminates in integrated shelving with arches that echo the archways of the walls.

The bedroom area in the pink house is framed by an arch opening.

The arched windows provide a treehouse-like experience for some of the bedrooms.

Each arch is strategically located to provide flow. “The wall is traditionally seen as a dividing element of the space, but with the arch walls, spaces flow onto each other, allowing the rooms to contract and expand without full separation,” explains the firm.

An arch added between the rear extension and the existing house embodies the mix of classical and modern styles.

"The colonnade arches are turned upside down as they are better for sitting in and for playing (bombies into the pool and chasing through the garden)," say the architects.

The redesign enlarged an existing arched opening between the dining room (with its vintage Saarinen table) and the new addition.

The redesign created two arched passageways into the kitchen as part of a rebuilt dividing wall, improving circulation and doubling as built-in storage.

The interior is lined with Rimu, a native timber from New Zealand. This cladding follows the same gentle arch of the barrel vault and imbues the interior with warmth and the beauty of natural timber. “The curved rimu-lined barrel vaults are one of my favorite moments,” reveals architect William Samuels. “I love the way they draw the eye to the arched windows at either end and provide warmth and delight to the interiors.”

The original arches were turned into doors with steel-framed glass that let in ample natural light. Custom terrazzo lines the floors.

With its stucco facade and steel-framed, arched windows, Plaster Fun House is an architectural anomaly amidst the cottages and 1960s brick residences of Torrensville in South Australia.

The Art Deco–inspired stair rail, designed by Ed’s mother, was preserved, as was one of the Moorish-style arches. A painty by Minku Kim hangs in the entry.

See Arch removed a wall to create a more spacious kitchen with a stronger visual connection to the dining area. The updated kitchen is outfitted with quartz countertops and Viking, Fisher Paykel, and Asko appliances.

The Igluhuts are modular in design. The names of each model reflects how many units are strung together and whether it features the large, arched panorama window.

The home, after passing through the tiled entry arch, opens directly onto the living area, with a Scott McIntire painting hung above a rug the couple bought in Turkey.

The home is now known as the House of Many Arches, and the arches are the architects’ favorite part of the project.

A very steep and narrow flight of stairs led to my favorite part of the room: a big bathroom tucked into the attic, with original wooden beams arching overhead.

Like Irving Gill’s Dodge House, Zamarbide’s dwelling is designed to capture changing shadows and daylight with its minimalist surfaces while framing views through arched windows.
