"When Pyrex was launched in 1915 as clear glass ovenware, American consumers needed to be persuaded that baking in glass was not only feasible, but provided benefits that baking in metal, iron, and earthenware did not have," Brumagen says. "To aid them in their campaign, Corning Glass Works executives turned to leading home economists to first test the new material in the kitchen and then to promote it to Americans through advertising, cooking columns in magazines, and demonstrations." Butter Dish & Butter Knife is a minimal design created by Oregon-based designer Studio Gorm for Furnishing Utopia. The Shaker’s dedication to hard work and perfection yielded timeless designs that have inspired countless modernist and contemporary designers all over the world. In collaboration with the Hancock Shaker Village and the Mt. Lebanon Shaker Museum, a group of designers participated in a week-long workshop conducted at two preserved Shaker sites, giving access to an extensive archive of objects and engaging them in a dialog with the museum’s curators. The dish is characterized by a indent that allows the knife to sit flush with the surface, preventing the knife from rolling around. The dish comes in two shapes, with the rectangular variation available in two sizes.

Daltile arranged her two-color AutoCAD design—white and off-white—onto a mesh backing for a small fee. To soften the edges of the cabinets’ drawers and doors, Schaffer requested radial edging.
