Hand-turned by artisans in Jaipur, India and designed by Michael Dreeben for AKMD, the Wave Candlestick mimics the undulating curves of sine waves. Each candlestick is made from repurposed, sustainably—harvested Mango wood -a native tree to India— and is burned and oil finished.

BLOSSOM CANDLESTICKS Part of the Blossom series, the Lily Candlestick is the baby in this family of blooms, standing at 24.5 cm. This joyous and organic form is crafted from hand turned beech wood— a production process inspired by the mid-century candlesticks which were made from the scraps of wooden furniture. Designed by Ariane van Dievot, the Avandi Candlestix Candle Holder Set is a series of three sleek candlestick holders. Crafted in solid brass, each candle holder has a decidedly modern shape, and includes a pointed top for both securing a candlestick and stacking other holders in the series. Each candle holder has a leather base branded with the Avandi logo.

The Cog Candleholder series from Tom Dixon blends elegance and industrial inspiration. Each statuesque holder is made out of machined raw aluminum on a traditional lathe that is brass plated and finished with a clear lacquer. Without candles, the candleholders have a tremendous presence; with candles, the holders are defined by their substantial height.

Designed by Sam Anderson, the candlesticks are available in a range of colors, and sold as a set of two. Each component is comprised of painted hard maple and steel. The painted wood brings warmth to the accessory, while steel gives an industrial slant.

The Blossom series is a collection of candlesticks that are inspired, as their names would suggest, by flowers. The series includes three different heights and shapes—Tulip, Rose, and Lily—that are crafted from hand-turned beech wood and painted in vivid hues. The hand turning process is inspired by the midcentury candlestick making process of creating candlesticks from the scraps of wooden furniture.

The Luster Candle Holders create an instant statement on a mantel or tabletop, and can be arranged from shortest to tallest, in a cluster, or sporadically to create a distinctive, changing look. Each holder is defined by its geometric details—a cylinder meets a circular base. Crafted from a zinc alloy with a black matte finish, the luster candleholders blend a cool modern look with a traditional feel, making them a balanced accent for a variety of interiors.

Danish designer Simon Legald was inspired by the silhouette created in a tree trunk as lumberjacks slowly chop away toward its center when he conceived of this series of Lumberjack Candle Holders. Each holder is carved from a single, cylindrical piece of solid wood. The result is a series of candle holders that blend an organic feel and a refined, sculptural quality, making them an ideal choice for a rustic kitchen or elegant dining room.

“The things we splurged on still look raw, which is what we wanted,” adds Nick.

With a stroke of luck (and a great photographer!) we captured the family Dachshund under the walnut wood mid-century credenza in the foyer. The tinier, inanimate version of the Dachshund on the credenza, is a ceramic sculpture we found from from Jonathan Adler.

Lights Arrows by Apparatus in aged brass and black python, table and benches are custom made from a very rare and heavy reclaimed oak. Vintage brass candlesticks sourced from an auction and black candles by Cire Trudon. Benches are lined with Icelandic sheepskin throws.

At their A. Quincy Jones house in Los Angeles, architects Cory Buckner and Nick Roberts used permeable pavers to help the soil retain moisture.

Kasey and Nick chose to keep the long, reclaimed-marble countertop in the kitchen, which had been renovated by the previous owners of the 1954 Wendell Lovett home.

Architect Ben Waechter wrapped the upper floor of Nick Oakley’s house in inexpensive black corrugated steel. By rounding the corners, Waechter avoided unsightly trim at the edges.
