In the 2EM lounge, light fare like duck confit cassoulet and flatbread with lamb, blue cheese, and caramelized pears is served. The dining table is from French retailer AM.PM., the pendants are by Him + Her, and the shelves are by Tomado Holland. An Ikea rug echoes the geometric motif found throughout the apartment.

Two green accent walls—one seen here in the dining room—are the only departures from the strategically white backdrop. Wierciński and team designed the dining table and its orange steel frame, along with the seating benches and wall-mounted seat backs. A Sticks pendant light from Nowodvorski illuminates the space.

The living room features a roomy Scandinavia sofa from Bolia and vintage glass pendants from Holmegaard. The original gold stucco wall frames are accented with Farrow & Ball paint in Mole’s Breath.

A bridge connects the second-floor office and guest bedroom with the backyard-facing master bedroom. To prevent excessive solar heat gain in this especial space, Butler Armsden used high performance Unilux low-e windows. Two Eurofase pendant lights from Chromos illuminate the hallway at night.

SPINNING LIGHT BH2 Sleek, sexy, and understated, Hubert's very grown-up pendant lighting is actually inspired by a children's spinning top toy.

The Conic Section LED Pendant Light from Castor is light that is inspired by mathematics. A conic section is a curve that is obtained at the intersection of a cone and a plane, which is reflected in the design of the pendant light. The Conic Section Pendant is available in four different iterations—a hyperbola, ellipse, parabola, and circle—which are created by cutting the cone at different angles. The cages of each pendant are plated in black chrome, which helps to reflect the light emitted from the interior LED lamp. Adjusting the direction of light is easy, as the overlaying shields can be moved.

In Chicago’s Buena Park, dSPACE Studio transformed a disorganized 1978 home into a bright retreat that revolves around an expanded atrium. SoCo pendant lights by Tech Lighting draw the eye up to the double-height light well.

The Tilt Pendant Light from Nyta delivers open, soft lighting in an interior. Featuring intuitive handling, the Tilt Pendant can be turned and swiveled to redirect lighting as needed. The Tilt Pendant Light is currently marked down to 20% off at the Dwell Store until October 31, 2015.

The open-plan living-kitchen-dining area is a repository of design icons, both classic and contemporary. There’s a Louis Poulsen pendant lamp over the Eero Saarinen dining table; Mirror Ball pendants by Tom Dixon over the kitchen counter; and Tab F1 floor lamps from Flos behind the Edward Wormley–designed Dunbar sofa. In the living room, chairs modeled on Jens Risom’s swivel design enable people to face either the sofa or to spin 180 degrees toward the kitchen.

In the dining room, the family gathers beneath a cluster of IKEA Ranarp pendants.

The area that was formerly the atrium now houses the dining room. The table is Room & Board, and the pendants IKEA. The poster is another Herman Miller trade poster found at a Berkeley shop.

Neyer is also working on prototype for a pendant lamp inspired by a yo-yo.

This collection of Delinea Glass Pendant Lights shows off the sculptural look of the Plumen 002 bulb. The Plumen 002 has a lifetime of eight years, while typical incandescent bulbs last up to one year. CFLs tend to produce harsh light reminiscent of fluorescent lamps, while the Plumen 002 diffuses warm, soft light, making it an excellent option for ambient settings.

The couple designed the master bedroom, choosing a new red carpet inspired by the original and a Half Moon pendant by Allied Maker.

The upper level consists of an open-plan living and dining space and was built with a prefabricated cross-laminated timber construction. The kitchen is outfitted with Miele appliances and a terrazzo countertop from Marmi Scala. Aim pendants from Flos hang above the stairway.

Swift Restaurant looks out onto Beacon Falls. The wall sconces come from Hudson Beach Glass in Beacon and the glass pendants are from Niche Modern. Since reclaiming materials were a top priority for the McAlpines, Swift’s bathroom doors and tables, and the wood paneling on the hallways, were crafted from old floorboards, found on other buildings on the site, much of them made by Jessica Wickham of Wickham Solid Wood Studio in Beacon. This colorful assortment of Calla Pendant Lights from Niche Modern is made of hand-blown glass in Beacon, New York. Inspired by calla lily flowers, the pendant lights can be used to showcase the Plumen 001 Bulb.

These pendant lamps—"simple shapes that become wonderful when you are mix them together," says Färdig— were released at Stockholm Design Week earlier this year.

A row of Nahtrang pendant lights creates an axis, anchored by the enormous custom bookcase framing the dining room artwork. The seating at lower left is the ASA Armchair by Bernardo Senna; the dining table charis are by Martin Ballendat for Anima Domus.

The architects wanted to create as much of a buffer as possible against the urban traffic outside the kitchen. A clerestory window manages to maintain a visual connection with the neighborhood while blocking its noise. The kitchen features Pleat Box pendant lights from Marset and Lio Stools by Roberto Barbieri for Zanotta.

The architects replaced the original, carpeted stairway with one built from black walnut. “[The goal] was to mirror a large tree that had to be felled in the garden before the project started,” Webster explains. “The staircase rises up through the building, with the branches being the landings that reach out to the different rooms.” Tom Dixon lights hang at the center of the stairs.

In the house, Rejuvenation found custom lamps made from Japanese fishing buoys. The Yeon Pendant (pictured) is inspired by the architect's clever design.

One of the bedrooms became Norelius’s studio, which includes lighting from Artemide above a custom desk.

After they graduated from college, both Lee and Davis were designing and making products for local Seattle companies, and took the experiences learned into their own business. In their Aura Lights, the designers were inspired to take a ceiling light and pare it down. According to Lee, the “simple and versatile light celebrates the two elemental ingredients: the source (the bulb) and its illumination (highlighted by a brass ring).” The result is a halo-like diffusion of light that creates a dramatic, yet minimalist aesthetic. The Aura Light is available with a brass holder or a copper holder.

Ted Lights

Described as “Lego for grown-ups” Grupa’s ili_ili lamps (which translates to “either-or”) allow the consumer to pick and choose between six modular elements in different colors in order to create their own individualized lamps.

At night, the exterior is lit with small LED bulbs for minimum impact. Steps are carved directly into the mountain landscape, leading visitors into one of the home’s two main entrances.
